TROIS NUITS PAR SEMAINE (THREE NIGHTS A WEEK)
FLORENT GOUËLOU | FRANCE | 2022 | 103 MIN | V.O.F. S.-T.A. / FRENCH S.-T.EN.
Deep into an 8-year heterosexual relationship, Baptiste is given license to explore his sudden, all-consuming attraction to Cookie Kunty, a vision in and out of drag, the same throaty purr. Brought into Cookie’s swirling, bejewelled world, Baptiste examines his preconceived notions of masculinity and uncovers the performer underneath Cookie’s performance.
Baptiste (Pablo Pauly of the “warm,” irresistible smile) comes across Cookie (Romain Eck) at the mobile clinic his girlfriend (Hafsia Herzi) helps run and his camera can’t get enough. Like Baptiste, his camera comes to caress her, adore her, and accompany her in her darkest and most triumphant moments. Joining Cookie and her troupe of trans, cis, and non-binary performers on a road trip to a potentially life-changing Drag Olympus competition, Baptiste tackles his issues with self-confidence and self-sacrifice while getting to know who Cookie/Quentin truly is to him. This show-stopping, refreshingly gritty rom-com by writer-director Florent Gouëlou – a drag queen himself – is brimming with instantly iconic shots: figures twirling in a ceiling mirror; a long green train trailing along concrete; Baptiste seen through a window, illuminated by a neon cut-out of Cookie’s face, their identities forever entwined.
