SINCE THE LAST TIME WE MET (DESDE LA ULTIMA VEZ QUE NOS VIMOS)
MATIAS DE LEIS CORREA | ARGENTINA | 2023 | 81 MIN | SPANISH S.-T.EN.
Victor, a restless loner on the cusp of 40, is snapped out of his workaholic stupor when he runs into David outside his Buenos Aires apartment. They push ‘refresh’ on their steamy affair, trying to outrun hurt feelings and pursue the high of the moment.
It feels like a lifetime since Victor (Patricio Arellano) has seen David (Esteban Recagno), an adrift romantic and aspiring DJ. 5,475 days, to be exact. After David unblocks Victor from his phone, and life, they meet for monthly trysts while David’s wife is away, experiencing the giddiness and adrenaline of the forbidden. Both are bisexual, refusing to label things, and David thinks they are on the same page. But when they finally escape the confines of Victor’s apartment, travelling to the countryside, Victor must decide how far he can go with what he’s given. Argentinian writer-director Matías De Leis Correa’s sexy drama is dialogue-rich with the cloistered potency of a play, building on themes of “accumulated guilt” and compulsion. David knows Victor’s physical side but does he understand the rest? And are they simply repeating past patterns or is this a chance for more?
