With an irresistibly twee, of-the-moment aesthetic, Sofie Edvardsson, the Creative Director of the animation studio Soja, makes her film debut with Simon Österhof’s endearing, list-happy rom-com. This is the love story of David (Jonas Jonsson) and Anton (Eric Ernerstedt), two young men falling into bliss in the MSN Messenger era. There’s only one complication. Anton has a major case of wanderlust, moving to Japan to study and experience another culture before dragging David along on his globetrotting, while David is a homebody, worried that his cozy-fire-at-home personality will not jive forever with Anton’s hike-through-a-jungle exuberance. Edvardsson’s style and Österhof’s substance pair perfectly, the dazzle of snowfall or the explosive, candy-coloured vibrancy of floral wallpaper or an Indian excursion acting as the unpredictable backdrop to David and Anton’s improbable, but oh-so-perfect chemistry.
