Opening Night
Hellbent
Paul Etheredge-Ouzts États-Unis
2004 35mm 84 min v.o. anglaise
Get ready to hold on tight to your date for the world’s first
gay slasher film as Hellbent takes the horror genre to a new homo height!
With a wicked sense of humor, eye-popping production design and ultra-gory
special effects, writer/director Paul Etheredge-Ouzts and Joseph Wolf’s
(the co-creator of such horror classics as Halloween) film gives queer
audiences what they’ve long been missing: blood, gore, and edge-of-your-seat
suspense, not to mention a cast of handsome boys, both good and very
very bad. In this haunting debut feature, handsome boy-next-door Eddie
and his three best friends immerse themselves in the swirling, fantasy-filled
world of the annual West Hollywood Halloween Carnival. Caught up in
his crush on darkly mysterious Jake, Eddie, a would-be police officer,
doesn’t have time to notice the hunky, scythe-wielding masked
man who’s stalking him and his buddies. In true slasher fashion,
decapitated bodies start to pile up and Eddie joins Jake in a fight
for their lives. Packed with surprises and propelled by an explosive
soundtrack, Hellbent keeps the thrills, chills and importantly the laughs
coming at a terrifying break neck pace. A first ever for image+nation,
be sure to have a strong arm to hold onto and prepare yourself for an
enjoyably scary opening night! – KS
