Actors Robin and Lacie (co-screenwriters Robin Greenspan and Lacie Harmon) are falling madly in love – but is it real? The two are playing lesbian lovers in a play and the director (Dom Deluise) is determined to have real chemistry on stage. Offstage, however, Robin’s a “second-date-U-haul” kinda girl, in a monogamous relationship for the past six years, while Lacie’s a neurotic, commitment-phobic hottie who can’t resist one night stands. Can Robin leave her secure but sexless marriage? Can Lacie promise not to high-tail it once she and Robin actually get together? Real-life girlfriends Greenspan and Harmon adapted this award-winning romantic comedy from the equally successful play based on the story of how they got together. With hilarious performances from the inimitable Dom Deluise and indie icon Mink Stole as Robin’s mother, Girl Play skilfully moves between stage and screen to tell this painfully funny story about making the right choices in the face of blinding passion.
