Director David Moreton (Edge of Seventeen) carves up a tasty, Argentinian beefcake surprise in this iconoclastic, black comedy based on the novel by James Robert Baker. Dean (Todd Sutcliffe), a successful graphic novelist, is encountering roadblocks on the highway to happiness. Creatively stymied on his latest book, and hounded by his editor (the hilarious Jennifer Coolidge) to finish, the last straw comes when Dean’s hot lover Pablo (Antonio Sabato, Jr.) goes out for cigarettes one night without returning. Impulsively, Dean hops a plane to Buenos Aires, determined to reel in his man and his life. There, he’s warned to leave by Pablo’s imperious mother (Sonia Braga), who’s determined to see her son respectably married. A seductive bellboy, a sultry café owner and her sexy brother provide various clues, distractions and obstructions, until Dean’s desire for normalcy morphs into a taste for revenge! A hysterical, genre-bending dissection of mad love, down South American way. – SK
