“Heterosexuality is the opiate of the masses!” declares Gudrun, the female leader of the revolutionary organization “Raspberry Reich” in bad-boy Bruce LaBruce’s latest opus. Raspberry Reich mixes elements of political satire, social commentary and porn in a smart, silly and completely depraved package. Revolution is Gudrun’s boyfriend and she has enlisted a band of impressionable, straight and horny young men to implement her plan to overthrow the government. She’s on a mission to liberate the masses from sexual, political and social tyranny and with her band of cohorts, she plots to kidnap the son of a wealthy Berlin industrialist. Once they have their prisoner firmly tied up, she informs her boys that they must free themselves of society’s restrictive sexual roles and demands some hardcore boy-on-boy action from her comrades. Some very intense negotiations follow and it is anyone’s guess who will come out on top. Based very loosely on the legendary 1970s German terrorist organization, the Baader-Meinhoff Gang, Raspberry Reich merges graphic sex with anti-capitalist sentiment, keeping its tongue planted firmly in its cheek(s).
