Moritz is a heart-warming film filled with laughter and tears. In a small Swiss town just outside of Zurich, Ralph and Andi are a couple who live an openly gay life. Ralph is a conservative urban planner trying to get a promotion, and Andi, his lively boyfriend, dreams of moving to the big city. Drama befalls their quite lives when their neighbour, a single mother, has a stroke and needs to be taken to the hospital. Andi takes in her little boy, Moritz. Unsure of her circumstance, they await the news of the surgery. Ralph, who is uneasy about the situation, demands that Andi get a hold of the child’s grandmother. She arrives to look after the little boy, but Moritz prefers to stay with the couple. This sparks town controversy. The town mayor and a social worker get involved and the whole issue becomes a big public ordeal. Does the boy get to stay with the gay couple? The heart of this movie lies in the unsentimental representation of a tough-minded Moritz who upholds his choice. This film is a must see by all generations. – NH
