Hélas, le pauvre ‘tit Jérôme (Eric Debets) Beaunez… he’s hung-up on Henri, his unworthy twink ex-boyfriend. Bedevilled by the prospect of a Christmas alone, he exchanges the City of Lights for the City of Angels. Jérôme’s resemblance to Adrian Brody and friendly insouciance garner new admirers, among them a bevy of taco belles and a sultry stoner (Chad-Donald Strachey-Allen) – on his first day! As ill-fated daytime casting calls melt into sauna nights, Jérôme, never ready for his close-up, ends up starring in a pizza commercial. Despite the attentions of beautiful strangers, Jérôme continues to be haunted by Henri… Jason Bushman’s fag-u-lous first feature comedy is about competing forms of isolation and self-absorption in car-crazed Los Angeles. Debets reprises his role as the serene (screen) hunter with gorgeous gams. Bushman deftly reveals the seamy underside of Tinseltown with a sun-bleached palette, in this hilarious, low-key illumination of issues that usually get lost in translation. [-]
